This is What October Looked Like ~ Warrenton, Virginia Photographer

This is our October.... I took lots of photos this month, but didn't always share them.  I was looking back over my blog posts recently and I loved all the photos and notes about photos I took each day.  So this month I've decided to share them in one post.   Here is a peek in to our October...

Conor loves to help me in the kitchen. He loves to play in the sink and help with the dishes. Both Shawn and Mariah went through this phase also. There is just something so fun about playing in all that water. The light coming in the window was just an added bonus.

So Shawn my oldest turned 13 this month. This was a big deal for both of us. Of course he is excited that he is a teenager, and I can't believe I'm a mom to a teenager. These years have flown by so fast.  So on his actual Birthday he was at his Dad's, but on the day he got back he gave me a few minutes to get some photos of him.  Later during the post, you will see that we had cake and celebrated all together when Ethan was here with us.

For his birthday he wanted Doc Martens. I couldn't have been happier since those were such a huge part of my own teenage years.  I have to admit it makes me smile seeing that he likes Doc Martens and Nirvana.

We had a blood moon during an eclipse one morning this month.  I got home from dropping off Mat just in time to see it.  Not the best shot, especially since I didn't use a tripod and I need a much better lens for this type of shot.

So one of my favorite things about this month is the gorgeous evening light. It is beyond beautiful.  So often times after we get home we race to the fields behind our subdivision and play in the light.

I love this one in both the black and white. I can't decide on my favorite!

So once we got to the next weekend, when Ethan was here we celebrated Shawn's Birthday.

Never too old to make a wish and blow out the candles.

Well, at the end of Summer we attempted to grow some pumpkins.  Oma brought the plants out to us, the kids all planted them and we have had lots of fun watching the plants grow.  We got really excited when we started seeing them bloom pretty yellow flowers.  We kept waiting and waiting for the pumpkins though. We got 1 or 2 little ones start to grow, but they never got much larger than a gumball. So when Oma the "Pumpkin Fairy" came up for a visit, she surprised the kids by leaving some pumpkins and gourds out by the pumpkin plants.  It was a gloomy day, with some off and on raining.  Oma asked if the kids would show her the pumpkin plants so she could see how they were doing.  When they got outside, Conor was so excited he couldn't believe there were pumpkins.  He looked up at the sky, smiled, and yelled " THANK YOU RAIN!! "   It was so cute!

We also went to the fall festival and the kids got their faces painted, we listened to music, played games, and watched how cotton candy was made.  I decided to leave my camera at home and just enjoy my time with them.   When we got home I did get a shot of their awesome face paint jobs though.

Halloween is my husbands favorite time of year. He really could care less about decorating for any other time.  He was so happy to get all of his Halloween items out and set it all up.

Like I said we ran home several nights and went out to this field by our house. The light is so gorgeous back there. I never tire of shooting back there. The air is getting colder though, so our minutes are shorter, and we have to bundle up a bit more.

I wanted to play with some window light, so Shawn was a good sport and let me get a few shots of him. Typical bored teenager.

We had lots of fun pumpkin carving also.

I knew this would be the last weeknight we would get of evening light before the time changes, and it will be dark by the time we get home from work. She loves to dance in the light. I love to capture her dancing in the light. I love her smile when she sees the images afterward. I can only imagine what she will think when she looks back at these when she is my age. I hope she sees the little girl that is so full of life.

For Halloween Shawn, Mariah, and Ethan were with their other parents this year... So we had Conor. I didn' really take any photos because we were late getting home and just ran out to trick or treat before it got too late.   So here's one shot of our little darth vader.    Next year we are all dressing up and will enjoy Halloween to the fullest!

Thanks for following along.  Until next time... xo

  1. Really lovely photos, Karen.I especially like the ones taken in the field. Maybe you'll get a little snow and can get some nice shots out there!
